Jorge González Buajasán

“The young Cuban pianist Jorge González Buajasán impressed not only with his profound technique, but above all with his enormous maturity of expression and extraordinary musicality.”

“There was never any thunderous keying, but always an unerring sense of the dramatic potential of this music.”

Süddeutsche Zeitung – Klaus Kalchschmid (2016)

Born in Havana, Jorge González Buajasán first studied piano in Cuba before joining the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris in Hortense Cartier-Bresson's class. In 2015, Jorge won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the KlavierOlymp competition in Bad Kissingen. In 2019, he received the Coup de Cœur Prize from the Young Critics at the Clara Haskil Competition. In 2021, he won First Prize and four Special Prizes at the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition with violinist Manon Galy.

Jorge made his trio debut at Salle Pleyel in a prelude to the Orchestre de Paris. In 2015, he shared the stage with Boris Berezovsky at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. His accolades at the KlavierOlymp in Bad Kissingen led to solo performances with the Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Lawrence Foster at the Kissinger Sommer Festival. That same year, he gave several recitals at the Beethovenfest in Bonn, at the prestigious Herkulessaal in Munich in a recital broadcast by Bayerische Rundfunk, and again in Munich alongside Elisabeth Leonskaja for the "Stars and Rising Stars" Festival. Since then, he has been regularly invited to perform at La Roque d'Anthéron, where he notably gave the closing concert in 2022 alongside Renaud Capuçon and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed at the Folles Journées in Tokyo, the Piano Jacobins Festival, the Gstaad Festival, and the Easter Festival alongside the Dutilleux Quartet.

Jorge performs as a soloist in Riga with the Latvian National Orchestra under Vassily Sinaisky, with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under Stanislav Kochanovsky, with the Orchestre National de France under Felix Mildenberger, and with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra alongside Renaud Capuçon.

Since 2018, Jorge González Buajasán has been a member of the Zeliha Trio, alongside violinist Manon Galy and cellist Maxime Quennesson. They have performed in recital at the Grange au Lac at the Evian Festival, at La Roque d'Anthéron, in the Chamber Music season of the Monte Carlo Orchestra, at the Al Bustan Festival, the Berlioz Festival, among others. The trio regularly performs Beethoven's Triple Concerto with orchestras such as the ONPL under the direction of Gabor Takacs-Nagy or, more recently, on tour with the OCL and Renaud Capuçon, who is one of their regular chamber music partners.

The Zeliha Trio recorded its first CD with the Mirare label, released in November 2020. The album was praised by Alfred Brendel, Menahem Pressler, and received "5 Diapasons," "5 Stars" from Classica, and glowing reviews in The Strad and Gramophone magazines (Gramophone's Editor's Choice for January). Jorge also recorded an album with Manon Galy, his trio partner, which was awarded the Diapason d'Or of the Year in 2023.

Jorge has had the privilege of receiving guidance from musical figures such as Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Menahem Pressler, and Radu Lupu. He is currently supported by the Banque Populaire Foundation.
